Queer Artivism Talk

Image
Queer Artivism Talk Sac State This was a fun and interesting talk, Cellphone Lecture pictures... not my favorite but it was a good event. The speakers were our classmate Mila Corvino, Monica Vega Latona and Jamil Moises OrtaƱez. Unfortunately I had a project presentation due my self that day so I missed Mila's talk but I did really enjoy the perspectives of those speakers who I did get to listen too. Monica, pictured above, was definitely interested not just in Gender issues but also with Social Equality issues. She discussed the difficulty she had trying to make the work she wanted to make within the guidelines of I believe it was our Sac State institution. Which I have also found to be some what tricky when it comes to subjects of diversity and also race relationship here on campus. Sadly sometimes these efforts which are being implemented to encourage equality are I think many times driving in further the wedge of divide. And definitely also there is the ever-prese

Gun Show

Gun Show Artspace 1616 Artspace 1616 is a legit professional regional gallery, and I hope to show here one day. Many of the pieces here were untitled and did not have labels, it only dawns on me now that there was likely a catalog. (Robert Ortbal) The show was fresh original collaborative and bold, and it featured some of my favorite teachers and Ben Hunt of whom I also consider a teacher. (Ben Hunt) This piece had no label but I really liked it for a number of reasons. Basically I recognize Iggy Pop (the upside-down head) the color the design its use of plane, perspective, shadow. Its precision in regards to Pop imagery and its application. It is hard for me to say one piece is my favorite but this one is definitely high in the ranking. (Ron Peetz) Ron Peetz was my high school teacher and was and is a great inspiration in my artistic life. This piece was shocking to me for a few reasons. First its realism its a gun on a desk not unlike the ones I used t

Crocker

The Crocker (Rick Siggins, JuJuiygi 2007, Acrylic on Canvas) I Love The Crocker. (Homeboys, Brian D Tripp 1997 Mixed media) I always like to see there contemporary permanent collection, Its interesting especially after seeing the SF MOMA. Our Museum is good!                     (Charlie Brown Untitled, Bearing the weight#1 Oil on Pasted Canvas) I Feel Like the Crocker is a little more humbler, a little more down to earth. and still basically jam packed with Exceptional works and sweet shows.  I should probably become a member. (Gustavo Ramos Rivera, Bulerias 2009 Oil on Canvas) (Kojo with Ceramic piece) Thank You Crocker.

CACCA

CACCA California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Art (I know, the acronym makes no sense) (Lilly Luna Bennett (in hat) talking with Jan (with sunglasses) about her piece "I Love the Unknown" clay, wood, paint) CACCA! YeeHaww!!! Honestly I could draw a Thousand pictures of that night! I Suck at taking pictures when I am part of an event, or when I am really tired.  This was a bit of a combination of the two but... (Me with silly hat) I did get some fun shots of the Sac State Booth and our food and beer spread of which I was basically the Meistro. (Rusty and Grace's Dude and our Keg of Guiness) I have been to this even at least 5 times in my life and all and all this night might have been the best one yet! Our Teacher Scott was Hootin and Hollerin!!! In fact I am going to draw a picture of him! Actual Quote from Scott "We've Got a KEG OF GUINNESS!!! I'M NOT DRIVING ANYWHERE!!! IVE HAD THIS ALL PLANNED OUT S

Portals and Passages Graduates Show Sac State

Wow!!! So Much more of a Fun show than my last blog!!! Woah!!! And there is still some heavy shit in this show! Unfortunately I was un able to take any pictures on the night of the opening, because honestly I was just too F-ing tired and it didn't dawn on me to do so. But, I did grab the last little booklet that was on the counter!!! Score!!! I liked all the works but Especially Dan and Tam's works.  Dans pieces are really phenomenal to me and seeing Tams projection on the large scale was Legit!!! I also saw Michelle out side the gallery talking to an Art Collector Dealer Gallery person and they were talking about shows so that's cool. I like her works too but they need more Bold Color to me. Ahhhh but what do I know???!!! I am proud to study with these folks and to talk with them and learn from them. I Ruv Them and I Run Ru. KLAIBER

Richard Jackson Crocker Art Talk

Image
What is Art And who is Richard Jackson. The truth is Ladies and Gentlemen, in some ways this guy was pretty cool. Funny, clever, witty...  The truth is, I think he is a pretty unhappy albeit somewhat prolific, successful, recognized and funded artist.  Some of his work I really liked. Some of it I really didn't. (Honestly this piece and a # of is pieces make me feel sick to my stomach) (Honestly I don't even really want to see them)     (Really a lot of lude stuff) In his talk there were some very good quotes. "I made it all (10,000 Clocks) it's a piece about time. How you spend your time". I liked this part a lot. It made me immediately think about how I spend my time... How do you like to spend your time? He was honestly quite intelligent, and also it was apparent to me that he was quite displeased with him self. In fact he reminds me of a dictator from WWII who hated himself and therefore scapegoate
