Crocker Visit Contemporary Art History 3-10-19



        Hello my name is John Klaiber and I visited the Crocker Art museum this Sunday with my beginning drawing class led by Professor Brenda Louie and it was quite an experience. I have been to the Crocker many times before this however with my education at Sacramento State it seams like each time things are going further and more that I before was really able to perceive. 
       All of the works she focused on save maby a few were were works that would be considered contemporary or otherwise the roots of Contemporary Art. The premise of our class really as far as I can describe simply can be summed up in this one phrase that Professor Louie has been saying more and more often these days.
       Learn the rules, break the rules.











      Some of the pieces were intriguing because I just like them. Some stood out because of things I am learning in this class. Some were intriguing because of what I have been learning in the drawing class. In the end I feel like my artistic perspective is broadening. What is the male gaze what is the female gaze what is hatching crosshatching, what is not.
     In the end I feel like Professor Louie’s words are pretty right on.

    Learn the rules. Break the rules.

Tam Helenski I have known Tam for a little while now and one thing I can absolutely say is that she has some seriously deep understanding of not only her work but also the way of many artist, I think even more than many artist may know. Eric Adjetey Anang

Eric Adjetey Anang One of my favorite parts about being an Art Student at Sacramento State is the opportunities I have had to work with and get to know visiting artist. Last year it was Shay Church this year it was Eric Adjetey Anang. (Artist Eric Adjetey Anang with student assistants Kojo Gaisie and Chris Duffy) Now this year I didn't get to work as closely on the project with Eric as I did with Shay but I will say this, I have never met a guy who smiles as much and seams as Jolly as Eric! Crocker

The Crocker (Rick Siggins, JuJuiygi 2007, Acrylic on Canvas) I Love The Crocker. (Homeboys, Brian D Tripp 1997 Mixed media) I always like to see there contemporary permanent collection, Its interesting especially after seeing the SF MOMA. Our Museum is good!                     (Charlie Brown Untitled, Bearing the weight#1 Oil on Pasted Canvas) I Feel Like the Crocker is a little more humbler, a little more down to earth. and still basically jam packed with Exceptional works and sweet shows.  I should probably become a member.
